The term “batten down the hatches” originated on the oceans of the early 19th century. When entering especially rough waters, the captain would order the crew to close all the doors (hatches) with lengths of rods (batten) to secure them in place. With that same weather in mind comes Battenwear’s Batten-Down collection, designed for smooth sailing in even the roughest of conditions.
Inspired by the mountaineering parkas of the 1970s, the Batten-Down features a 720 fill power blend of 85/15 duck down and feathers. The down’s all wrapped up in a 60/40 cotton/nylon exterior that’s wind and water resistant. The result is a coat that is lightweight but also incredibly warm. It’s finished with a detachable hood, and patch and hand warmer pockets, and a two-way Vislon zipper and snaps that are prepared to be battened at a moment’s notice.
