CO-OP 4: The AFGI Ajrak Bandana
CO-OP 4: The AFGI Ajrak Bandana
The Ajrak Bandana is the fourth release in the Heddels CO-OP line. We partnered with vertically-integrated denim manufacturer Artistic Fabric & Garment Industries to create a bandana that pays homage to Pakistan's rich textile history.
The bandana traces its roots to the Ajrak, a wood-block fabric printing technique developed in the Indus River Valley area of present day Pakistan over 3,000 years ago. We worked with some of the Ajrak makers still using those same techniques today to make a bandana in the same style of a traditional Ajrak.
Our bandana is entirely produced in Pakistan. It's a plain-weave selvedge fabric, woven on early twentieth century shuttle looms in the town of Hala; it's printed and indigo-dyed in the small village of Matiari using millennia old techniques; and then cut and sewn at AFGI's facilities in Karachi.
